Fusion Energy
Some say that the best way to predict the future is to invent it. If we really want to create an utopian society, we have to start from its base, energy. And what could be the best energy source if not the energy of stars? Indeed it is possible to recreate the energy such as stars do, on earth: Fusion Energy.
#1 The Energy of the Future 🌳
What will be the next big thing? What will revolutionize the world as profoundly as artificial intelligence is currently doing?
Some say that the best way to predict the future is to invent it. If we really want to create an utopian society, we have to start from its base, energy. And what could be the best energy source if not the energy of stars? Indeed it is possible to recreate the energy such as stars do, on earth: Fusion Energy. WHAT IS FUSION ENERGY, A THREAD

What is Fusion Energy?
The principle is pretty simple. The astonishingly high temperatures of stars compresses atoms together, creating what is indeed called Fusion Energy. Therefore, by simple squeezing together two nuclei, it is possible to create an absurd amount of energy. The materials needed to recreate this process are tritium and deuterium (which fuse to form helium), both abundant on earth. Tritium + Deuterium = Helium + Neutron (Energy) [Image below]

In order to ignite fusion fire, we need a fuel called plasma, which is heated up gas that will contain the particles during the process. With only 1 kg of this fuel we would cover the annual energy of 1000 people in Germany. Nonetheless, plasma has an ignition temperature of 100 million degrees. How is it possible to create such a condition?

To recreate these conditions, the most understood process is known as Tokamak, where plasma is confined inside a magnetic field [Image 1], and constantly spins around the doughnut-shaped reactor chambers to prevent the particles from escaping the plasma. The second option is the Stellarator [Image 2], which is a more complex but better solution in terms of keeping the plasma stable, and many believe it could become the main Fusion Energy source of the future.

How can we bring Fusion to the market?
The objective of many startups is to do like Space X did with rockets. Reduce the size of generators so that you can mass produce them and transport them to sites, cheaply.
What are the benefits of Fusion Energy?
5/
Fusion Energy is practically limitless, clean and safe.
With Fusion Energy, we could electrify industries that requires fossil fuels, like steel melting, and create new industries which has been hold back by energy costs, such as water desalination.
Due to the less dependancy on fossil fuels, the geopolitical landscape will be deeply influenced. And ultimately, new jobs will be created.

As costs decrease and technology develops, companies are starting to set the year which they believe they can make Fusion Energy available to the population: 2028. Notable companies working with Fusion Energy are CommonWealth Fusion Systems, Helion Energy, and Proxima Fusion.
